Grab your cowboy hat and dust off your cowgirl boots -- it's the Animal Acres COUNTRY HOE DOWN! Gather with people who care about cows, and other farm animals, and have a great time for a good cause!
The COUNTRY HOE DOWN starts with our unique farm tours, where you can kiss a cow, give a pig a belly rub, talk to turkeys, or simply share a memorable moment with any of our country critters who call Animal Acres, "Home Sweet Home." Our shelter tour guides will introduce our residents to you and share some of their amazing and heartwarming stories.
After meeting our farmed animal friends, we'll hear from some of our movement's noted authors and activists.
This year's special guest speakers are(partial list):
Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson is a writer who lives with his family in New Zealand. He has been a professor at several universities in Canada and America. After serving as Projects Director of the Sigmund Freud Archives, he wrote a series of books critical of psychiatry and therapy. In the 1990s he turned his attention to animals, and in particular, their emotional lives. His book When Elephants Weep became an international best seller, as was Dogs Never Lie About Love. He will be speaking about his exciting, upcoming book The Face on Your Plate: The Truth About Food, which challenges readers by exposing the harsh truths of factory farming.
Erik Marcus is the publisher of Vegan.com, a comprehensive website with recipes, articles and an online store for great (but sometimes hard to find) vegan products. Marcus is the author of the newly released book, The Ultimate Vegan Guide, a book that covers all aspects of vegan living. The Ultimate Vegan Guide is perfect for the person contemplating veganism and even offers seasoned vegans new and easy health and living tips. He is also the author of Meat Market: Animals, Ethics, & Money, and Vegan: The New Ethics of Eating. He is a 1991 graduate of Columbia University.
Tina Volpe is the author of the book "The Fast Food Craze, Wreaking Havoc on Our Bodies and Our Animals". Volpe has just co-authored (with Judy Carman) a new book, to be released in Spring 2009, titled "The Missing Peace, The Hidden Power of Our Kinship With Animals," published by Dreamriver Press. She is a health researcher, 30 + year vegetarian, speaker, educator, consultant, television guest appearing all over the country, radio host of the top rated show "Wake UP America" on Voice America Health.
