These cute piggies are just a handful of the animals seized by the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care & Control last October, including 26 sheep and goats, 1 horse, and 18 pigs and piglets. The animals were rescued from a private "backyard" butcher store that was selling animals for meat, slaughtering the animals at the premises, and feeding butchered animal parts that could not be used for human food back to them. The sheep and goats were severely emaciated, and there were several pigs with hernias, worms and other ailments. Thanks to the relationships that Animal Acres has been forming with local animal shelters, the county contacted us for emergency assistance.

After several days of rehabilitation at the Los Angeles shelter, and weeks of much needed medical attention at the Animal Acres evacuation site, our new pig friends are healthy and happy at our sanctuary - but they are all still in need of loving sponsors to call their own! This Independence Day, in honor of the commemoration the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 - ADOPT A PIG and give our rescued friends a reason to celebrate, too!
